Import Tuning

If its fast, its cool. This includes imports. Although it may not be my bread and butter, i've certainly done a lot of it over the years. With import tuning comes the use of various ecus including Maxx Ecu, haltech, AEM, Link and a bunch of others. I think each ecu has its own place and application and it definitely isn't a one size fits all but generally speaking Maxx, Haltech and Link are on a similar playing field and prefered in most cases. Some simpler cars might benefit from something like a megasquirt. AEM is almost never the right choice.
My platform experience ranges pretty far. I think i have the most experience with m50/m52 BMW and miatas but i've also done a ton of 2j/rb stuff as well. I don't particularly have a preference as long as its well built.
As i dig through old photos, 1 major example of my import tuning comes to mind...
Derek Rockwell brought me this cars many years ago when it was only making 400hp on a megasquirt 2. Through the years the car went through so many changes ranging from ecus to turbos to motor setups and everything between. In its final form with the BP motor, it was on a fueltech FT550, 76mm turbo and methanol fuel. Its highest HP dyno pull was 997WHP, but it came at the cost of reliability. It got to the point where it was almost impossible to keep the headgasket in tact at that level. Ultimately this was the combinations demise and shortly after Derek changed the car over to the tried and true LS turbo combo and is currently being raced like this.
